Preschool Programs...(3-5 years)

Preschoolers are like sponges – they soak up knowledge. Pooh Corner uses the Creative Curriculum® which follows the guidelines for developmentally appropriate practice set forth by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The Creative Curriculum® tool is used to develop lesson plans as well as the assessment tool to measure the progress of the children in the program This information is always available to parents. Formal progress reports are provided three times per year and informal reports are provided weekly. Social, verbal, cognitive and physical skills are built through activities that engage children. Here they learn everything they need to be prepared for kindergarten and beyond. Within our comfortable, encouraging environment children deepen knowledge, free from the fear of mistakes and failures.

Throughout the day children are given opportunities to participate in various Learning Centers that are designed with age appropriate activities and choices. During the "activity time", children move freely around daily planned activities; such as art, science, social studies, technology, water play, cooking, stories, puppets, sensory play, block building, music and movement and dramatic play. During the morning children also participate in "circle time" which allows them to learn about their world through teacher directed activities.

Lunch is followed by rest time, utilizing individual cots. Children who do not sleep are asked to rest for half an hour before getting up. During the remainder of the afternoon our program is an open classroom. Your child will have an opportunity to pursue his or her own interests in various curriculum centers or to participate in planned activities both inside or outdoors. Lesson plans and benchmark goals are posted weekly on the parent bulletin board.
